Dr Mary Jane Tacchi is a consultant psychiatrist. She works in a busy inner city crisis team in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is the team she was instrumental in setting up in 2000 and for which she was awarded Hospital Doctor of the Year in 2002.
She has held various management roles; Assistant Medical Director, Clinical Director, Deputy Medical Director and Responsible Officer. In 2015 she completed the NHS Leadership Academy Nye Bevan Healthcare Leadership Award.
She was Special Adviser in Crisis to the Royal College of Psychiatrists 2014-2017 and is currently National Advisor in Crisis to the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health.
Her research interests are medication adherence, service development and the development of staff. She has completed studies looking at the effectiveness of a cognitive intervention, patient and staff attitudes to medication and the training of mental health professionals and published the same.
